Wondering what does the title of the blog implies???
Well this is a very colourful slogan of none other than the winning BSP (Bahujan Samaj Party) in the recently held UP (Uttar Pradesh) polls. Mayawati being the president of BSP has sworn in as the chief minister of the well known state of India, UP. Wondering, why did I stressed on "well known", yes it is well known for the fact that it has the highest crime rate in free India. It is also known for the fact that eight out of India's fourteen prime ministers hail from the same state. (Jawahar Lal Nehru, Lal Bahadur Shastri, Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi, Chandrashekhar, Vajpayee ji are few to be named.) With the skewed sex ratio, female illiteracy, etc. UP is famous and notable for all. Don't worry UP (my own state) is not what I am going to discuss all about in this blog.
Mayawati's social agenda for the polls this time was "gundaraj khatam karo". She wants Uttar Pradesh to be Uttam Pradesh. Good thinking Mrs. Mayawati. But is it practically possible????
Following is a brief count of the candidates belonging to different parties, who have some pending criminal cases or chargesheets against them:
Samajwadi Party - 35% of its candidates are chargesheeted.
BSP - 32%
BJP - 30%
Congress - 20%
(http://www.pressbox.co.uk/detailed/Government/Criminals_in_U.P._Politics_119319.html)
The figures point out the domination of the criminals over politics. Infact many of the candidates did their campaigning from jails itself, by broadcasting the live speeches through illegal mobile phones smuggled into their jail cells. Not only these criminal-politicians participated in the polls, instead they did come out with flying colours too. (obviously I can not name them)
Of the 403 seats in UP assembly 206 won by BSP and out of 304 registered BSP candidates in UP polls 2007, 32% have some criminal charges against them, which accounts to 96 candidates with criminal background. All these figures emphasizes the entry of criminals in the UP assembly. With so many criminal-ministers themselves sitting on the throne, is it possible for Mayawati to "gundaraj khatam karo".
Why talking about the background of cabinet ministers, when the chief minister herself is not all clean. Who can forget the Taj Corridor Scam, during the tenure of Mayawati in 2002-2003. The case is still under the investigation of CBI.
I am not like criticizing the Mayawati's government with all the above written content (Even Mulayam Singh Yadav's govt. was full of criminal-politicians). She might turn out to be very much successfull as the CM of the state, making Uttar Pradesh a Uttam Pradesh. But, why doesn't the Election Commission of India take some preventive measures against the filing of the candidates with criminal background. How could they allow such candidates to fight polls.
Recently, Election Commission of India proposed a bill to the Parliament, requesting political parties to stop filing the candidates with criminal backgrounds. But the bill was rejected by the parliamentary standing committee. This itself highlights the presence or control of the criminal-politicians in the parliamentary decision making. So, it is now like a vicious circle. Entry of criminals into politics can not be banned untill the politician themselves do not decide to eliminate criminalization in politics.
The way this disease is spreading, I bet the day is not far away when we the normal people will loose all the democratic rights, even the democracy, and will be required to worship these criminal-politicians.
Ultimately, not only Election Commission of India can be blamed, even we the citizens of India are responsible upto certain extent. Why do people vote for the chargesheeted candidates??? Are they forced to do so or what??
Anyways, myself being a domicile of UP, would undoubtedly wish Mrs. Mayawati to sucessfully complete her tenure and to stand by on her agenda. With the hopes to see extinction of gundaraj, I conclude my blog.
(Apology to all in case if i have hurt the sentiments, or for anything which is misquoted.)

The election commission has no real power..the bill was rejected under the pretext that any opposing can wrongly indict a politician and then he would be barred from contesting..And i m sorry to say but i think Mayawati will make no real difference to UP..The main reason is that when it comes to even basic economics, she is pretty clueless..an politician today has to be a good economist to succeed..but anyways, some interesting facts..seems like you research b4 u write..good..i see you are optimistic about mayawati..but i think she is hopeless.
The UP politics is one of the most interesring ones to watch out for because of several reasons...Except for this time ,traditionally no party attains a full majority in the assembly..It depends on the KHAM factor..
K - khashtriya ( Yadavs,Khurmis,...) Usually the votebank of samajwadi party,
H - hindu ( uppercaste Hindu ) goes for BJP,
A - adivasi ( dalits,harijans..) votes for BSP,
M -muslim usually goes for congress and SP.
What mayawati done successfully this time is to split the hindu votebank by saying that it will provide reservations for the uppercaste, split the muslim votebank by standing in many muslim candidates in muslim dominated areas, and also a huge anti-incummbency wave accompaning this...
it proved to be a master stroke on the part of her...
as quoted above by brij.. i dnt believe she is completly hopeless .. living in up myself.. i cn say she is definetly better than d other existing people... but only time will tell .. nd for d sake of d masses i hope u r right
